Semiconductor Industry in Pakistan: Opportunities & Challenges

The Department of Electronics Engineering Technology organized the guest speaker session titled “𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧: 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 & 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬” on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, at the Smart Classroom. The session was conducted by Engr. Nouman Akbar, Manager and Senior Design Verification Engineer at 10xEngineers Lahore, a distinguished expert in the field of semiconductors. The session was jointly chaired by Engr. Shazia Feroz, Chairperson of ESET, and Dr. Ghulam Jawad Sirewal, Chairperson of EET, and it was attended by faculty members and senior students from the Electronics and Electrical Engineering Technology programs Engr. Akbar generously shared his wealth of knowledge, extensive experience, and valuable insights into the Semiconductor Industry. During his presentation, he discussed the current status and global trends of the semiconductor industry, as well as the specific opportunities and challenges it presents for Pakistan. Engr. Akbar also highlighted the skills essential for success in this field and the pivotal role that academia plays in nurturing the talents needed to thrive in the semiconductor sector. During the session, participants actively explored mutual areas of collaboration, with a particular focus on curriculum development, the creation of short courses, collaborative projects, and internship opportunities. These discussions aimed to strengthen the bond between academia and industry, fostering an environment where students can gain practical experience and industry leaders can benefit from fresh perspectives and innovations, In concluding remarks, Engr. Arif Hussain, Lecturer at ESET, paid gratitude to Engr. Akbar for his insightful session, emphasizing the value it added to both students and faculty. He also expressed his gratitude to all the participants and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between academia and industry in shaping the future of electronics engineering and technology in Pakistan.
