Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, VICE CHANCELLOR

It is with great honor that I serve as an educational leader and the Vice-Chancellor of the first technical university in Sindh, the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, Khairpur Mirs. Being a Vice-Chancellor, my foremost object is to propel this university to new heights and to stimulate the students with ample opportunities in various Industries and Organizations.

Our first priority would be to facilitate our students particularly those from less privileged areas to become innovative and infuse among them with hands-on experience, through comprehensive monitoring, training, and industrial internships.

My utmost dedication lies in advancing the first technical university of Sindh and transforming it into a state-of-the-art institution. Accredited by the National Technology Council, Islamabad, we offer four-year undergraduate degree programs in Civil Technology, Electrical Technology, Electronics Technology, and Mechanical Technology. On top of it, we continue to provide high-quality education through our three-year Diploma of Associate Engineering program after Matriculation. To promote skill-based education, the university also offers six-month short courses in different trades, enabling the youth of our country to gain essential skills and start their businesses. Our mission is to empower the community with hands-on technological knowledge through high-quality teaching & research environment, innovative tools & techniques, and entrepreneurial & global leadership skills with the consciousness of ethical norms & values.

As Vice-Chancellor, I fully comprehend the challenges that lie ahead and the opportunities that we should able to offer. This is a unique chance to mold our students accordingly and infuse them with research-oriented skills. We shall be more dedicated & committed to the growth & development such as; technological innovations using Artificial Intelligence & Information Engineering.

Biography

Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar is a Meritorious Professor and Environmental Engineer with over 30 years of experience in academics, research, and administration. He currently serves as the Vice Chancellor at Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, Khairpur Mirs, Sindh, Pakistan. His role is pivotal in driving the university towards new heights, offering a range of undergraduate degree programs in Civil, Electrical, Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Computer and Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Mahar places a strong emphasis on vocational training and skills development, with the university providing a 3-year Associate Engineer Diploma in 13 disciplines and six-month short courses in 40 different trades.

Dr. Mahar's dedication extends to empowering the community through hands-on technological knowledge and promoting a high-quality teaching and research environment enriched with innovative tools, techniques, and a focus on entrepreneurial and global leadership skills. He is particularly committed to the integration of ethical norms and values in education.

Previous Leadership in USPCASW:
  • Mahar also led the U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCASW), Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro in his capacity as a Director (from March 2020 to March 2023).
  • USPCASW was established in December 2014 with the support of USAID, the Center is now recognized as the National Water Center, an independent MUET entity governed and guided by the Center’s Board of Governors (BoG).
  • Mahar remained associated with this Center in different capacities since its establishment in 2014. He played an active role in the development of the Center during its 5-year project period (December 2014 to 2019) and beyond, initially as a HOD Environmental Engineering Department in the Center (December 2014 to July 2017) and Deputy Director (Academic & Research) from July 2017 to Feb 2020.
  • Later, he was entrusted with the responsibilities as the first Director of the Center, whereby he assumed the challenging role of sustaining the Center’s programs without compromising on the quality and also generating funds for sustainable growth and implementation of the Center’s mandate in an effective manner. Dr. Mahar was instrumental in winning research projects not only for the Center but also for the projects he led. During the period from March 2020 to 2023, the Center had won research projects worth Rs.400 million.
Earlier Career at MUET:
  • He worked as Co-Director/ Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering & Management at MUET from 2008 to 2014, before joining the Water Center. He started his

career as a Lecturer in August 1993 at the Department of Civil Engineering, MUET where he was elevated to the post of Assistant Professor (1998-2003), PhD Scholar (2003-2007), and Professor in 2008.

Editorial and Publication Contributions:
  • Mahar remained as an Editor and Chief Editor of the Mehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology from 2013-2023.
  • He published more than 150 research papers in international journals ISI indexed of Thomson Reuters having cumulative impact factors over 300, and more than 100 papers presented in the conferences and symposium.

  • Specialized in waste management, anaerobic digestion, water and wastewater treatment, reuse and recycle.

  • Having expertise in membrane bioreactor, and synthesis and testing of membranes for water and wastewater treatment
